Han Mäki
I'm Han Mäki (Hanna Kivimäki), a comic artist, an illustrator and an art educator, originally from Finland but currently living in the U.S. I enjoy telling whimsical and thoughtful stories of people and creatures either in the form of comics or through my illustrations. I explore a variety of different media in my work and often prefer a mixture of traditional and digital. When it comes to my teaching, I focus on the freedom of the students and ensure that making art is fun and not a chore for anyone in the class.

Through my art I want to spread a message of kindness and acceptance with a focus on promoting animal rights as well. Though there are occasionally darker themes in my work, I want to explore subjects mostly through humor and engaging eye-catching imagery.

I wanted to take a selfie in front of my Merit Scholarship Exhibit (soon I ended up winning one of the scholarships).

A self-portrait.

I love this rooster! We saved him from a place where other roosters pecked him so he didn't have any feathers on his head at first, and a piece of his comb had come off... We nursed him back to health and now he loves cuddling with me <3
